Stefan Institute, Jamova 39, SI-1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia Fluorescence decay of the 2s2p6(2S)np 1Po excited states of neon has been observed indirectly by threshold electron spectroscopy and directly by (electron, fluorescence photon) coincidence spectroscopy. The observation of this minor decay channel has been achieved through the high efficiency and resolution of the threshold measurements combined with the high resolution and flux of the gas phase beam line at the Elettra Storage Ring.
