TITLE MONOCHROMATIC RADIATION BY ATOMIC IONS MOVING IN A MAGNETIC FIELD AUTHORS Vladimir S. Melezhik AFFILIATIONS temporary (till June 1999):\ Physique Nucleaire Theorique et Physique Mathematique, C.P.229, Universite Libre de Bruxelles, B 1050 Brussels, Belgium permanent address: Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna, Moscow Region 141980, Russian Federation SUMMARY In the presence of a magnetic field atomic ions are shown to generate monochromatic radiation with the frequency W=Q B/M, depending on the field strength B and the ion mass M and charge Q. The effect is a consequence of the interaction of the bound electrons with the oscillating field of the Stark term coupling the center-of-mass and electronic motions of the ion. The radiation intensity may exceed the intensity of the continuous synchrotron radiation at some $B$ and the ion velocities $V$.
