AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE DEPENDENCE OF ELASTIC PHOTON-ATOM SCATTERING ON TARGET POLARIZATION AND ENERGY RESOLUTION J. P. J. Carney and R. H. Pratt Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15260, USA We consider the case of elastic photon scattering from atoms, and attempt to go beyond the level of description used in currently available results, to include features connected with scattering from non s-state targets and consequences for the partition between elastic and inelastic processes connected with finite energy resolution for the detected photons.
