CIRCULAR DICHROISM EFFECTS IN ATOMIC X-RAY SCATTERING

A specific beyond-dipole-approximation polarization effect in elastic photon-atom scattering, which gives 
rise to finite circular dichroism effects when the scattered photon has a suitable linear polarization, 
is shown to have significance in the x-ray regime (the effect being approximately 20\% in cross sections 
for high $Z$).
