INNER SHELL PHOTOION-FLUORESCENCE COINCIDENCE SPECTROSCOPY OF ARGON AND XENON. E. E. Rennie, U. Hergenhahn, O. Gessner, F. Heiser, A. Rüdel and A. Hempelmann. Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, Faradayweg 4-6, 14195 Berlin, Germany. Inner shell PIFCO spectra have been recorded over the L2,3 edges of argon and the M4,5 edges of xenon using monochromatic synchrotron radiation. Fluorescence photons in the 250-1550 Ċ range were detected in coincidence with ions in various degrees of ionisation. The results are compared to previous inner shell photoionisation (PI) studies. Significant differences can be seen when comparing all ions, i.e. from previous PI work, with those which are left in an excited final state. Especially interesting effects can be seen in argon around the Rydberg resonances, and after the L3-edge where the PCI effect is very prominent.
