Core hole creation without any particular orientation of the
hole is shown to give rise to a strong Auger-electron spin
polarization. This effect, known as dynamical Auger spin
polarization, is found in the decay of the atomic Xe
$4d_{5/2}^{-1}6p\,(J=1)$ state excited with linearly
polarized light. Polarization values ranging from $-0.46$
to $0.57$ are found. For a particular decay channel, the
ratio of the radiationless decay matrix elements and their
relative phase, including its sign, are derived.
