H-Atom Yield from the Dissociative Recombination of H3+ Ions with Thermal Electrons M. Skrzypkowski, M.F. Golde, and R. Johnsen University of Pittsburgh The flowing afterglow technique in conjunction with laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) has been used to determine the H-atom yield of the dissociative recombination of H3+ + e --> H + H+ H ( and H2+ H) at 300 K. It is found that the yield is f(H) =3D 2.2 =B1 0.3, quite close to earlier results of merged-beam and ion storage ring measurements.
