We consider a conceptional problem that arises in the quantum-mechanical
calculation of inelastic atomic collisions: Nonzero coupling matrix
elements seem to cause inelastic transitions at arbitrary large internuclear
distances. A standard remedy, the use of electron translation factors,
is not applicable in full quantum calculations. We present
a new procedure, which allows to deal with the problem in the
framework of a full quantum approach.
