FRAGMENTATION OF D2 MOLECULES BY Xe19+ IMPACT

A five-body classical trajectory Monte Carlo model has been developed to 
study fragmentation of diatomic molecules after double electron removal 
by highly charged ions.  Calculated final-state energy and momentum 
spectra are compared to spectra of the known isolated molecule 
Franck-Condon transition.  Major deviation from Franck-Condon behavior is 
observed for impact energies less than 1 keV/u.
